Transition Year Pupils

This shorter programme is ideal for busy TY students – depending on school commitments, choose the term that best suits the student’s busy TY school timetable. The easier elements of the Leaving Cert programme are covered with a huge emphasis on the oral part of the exam which is 25% of the Leaving Cert grade.

  • 12 week programme : 1 ½ hour class per week
  • All tutors are native French speakers to ensure authenticity in accent and pronunciation
  • Students choose either Course 1 (Oct – Dec) or Course 2 (Jan – April)
  • Max 7 students per class
  • All classes are streamed
  • Homework given weekly and corrected the following week
  • Regular assessments throughout the programme
  • Extra worksheets are available online during and on completion of the programme to ensure students stay focused when programme has ended. These are completed at home and returned to us for correction.
  • Progress reports are sent to parents on completion of the programme
  • All classes will receive a 2 part workshop in Term 2 before summer exams in order to facilitate revision.

For some pupils, this will be the first time that they will speak French – so it is essential that they are in surroundings that they are comfortable in, with teachers who will encourage and foster a love for the language.

Every student who attends this programme, enjoys the classes so much, they return for our more challenging  5th year French and Leaving Cert Grinds programme.

Essential French Language College, is a leading provider of Junior Cert and Leaving Cert French Grinds in Cork.

I found the TY programme in Essential French very beneficial. Every week we did oral work, learned new vocabulary and went over grammar. We played games every week aswell which made learning the vocab fun. I found this programme really helpful and I would definetely recommend it as I now feel well prepared with my french going in to 5th year.

” essential french make learning into fun ”
I looked forward to my Thursday evening french class as each week I learned more and more but we also had fun in class. I really felt like I got lots out of ty from doing essential french.

I heard about the TY course from my brothers and I’m delighted I went through with it! In TY I expected to lose my french but instead I learned more. For only one class a week its easy to keep on top of it and its well worth the work. The teacher was lovely and I actually enjoyed the classes. I am much more confident going into 5th year now and I’ll definitely be continueing Essential French next year!

I really really enjoyed the Thursday classes of essential French, they were very helpful in terms of going over the material we have already learned from school, helping us to understand the language better and also teaching us new vocabulary and how to pronounce everything properly. I hope the TY course was only a taster to what I’ll be learning as I go into 5th year because I learned so much this year alone! It really surprised me how much you can learn in 11 weeks for an hour and a half a week! Also the homework helped me learn a lot of what we went over in class! My French grades have risen considerably well and I look forward to the 5th year and leaving cert classes in the next 2 years!

French was always one of my weaker subjects in school, I would always be quite lost in class and it also made me dread going into the class because I felt like everyone else was so much better than me. I had heard a lot about Essential French from my friends, so i decided to do the TY course there and it was honestly one of the best decisions I made! I felt like it was the most French I had learned in a few weeks than my 4 years of knowing the language. It was a great environment to be in, it was fun but we got so much work done. I noticed I instantly felt so much more confident in school, I started to love French and I knew answers to more questions. My exam results went up so much and I was getting A’s in tests we were doing and even though they weren’t big tests it was such an improvement in my results! I would definitely recommend EF to anyone, it was the best few months and I’m looking forward to going back in 5th year.

Started the TY course in January and with two classes to go I must say I’m going to miss it! The material is clearly layed out, easy to learn and the teacher is superb. Could not recommend it highly enough and I look forward to hopefully returning to EF for the 5th year programme in September.

The Essential French TY course has saved my French in a year that I haven’t been practicing it as often being so busy with other Transition Year related things! It has improved my French immensely in such a short space of time. I feel very prepared for leaving cert French now and much more confident about the Oral aspect of the course especially. I would highly recommend the TY programme!
