Transition Year French Programme

Do you want to keep your standard of French up to speed during TY?

Essential French has the programme you are looking for!  We provide a Transition Year French Grinds programme in Cork that will keep your French language skills up to date.

Transition Year Programme :

This short 12 week programme is ideal for busy TY students who want to be smart with their time in TY.  Students can choose Term 1 or Term 2, depending on school commitments. The easier elements of the Leaving Cert programme are covered with a huge emphasis on the oral part of the exam which is 25% of the Leaving Cert grade.

We limit the number of students who we enrol in our TY French programmes every year to guarantee that our material remains EXCLUSIVE to those attending EF.  No other student in the country will have access to this material which has been proved to WOW the examiners every year.

What makes each of our students exceed their expectations in French is a combination of the features and facilities below, all included in the programme fee :

  • 12 week programme: 1.5 hour class per week.
  • All tutors are native French speakers to ensure authenticity in accent and pronunciation.
  • All classes are streamed so students are challenged at a level they are comfortable with.
  • Max 6 students per class to guarantee individual attention and increase confidence in each student.
  • Homework given weekly and assessments given regularly.

Additional Facilities throughout the year :

  • Free access to our exclusive Quizlet App.
  • Online support 24 hours a day via Facebook.
  • Additional worksheets are available online during and on completion of the programme to ensure students stay focused when programme has ended.
  • Optional Summer exams.
  • Regular emails sent to parents to keep them updated on everything happening in EF.
  • Progress reports are sent to parents on completion of the programme.

  2. Rebecca Foley says:

I was very glad I did essential French in fourth year. I had the chance to expand and develop my French learning. A lot of people consider fourth year a year to slack off because of not maintaining a proper timetable with classes. Although this is mainly true, you have to keep practicing a language throughout the year . The weekly classes and the vocab to learn off, kept my French up to the standard it should be even when I didn’t have French classes in school. Overall for anyone who is thinking of doing EF in transition year I would definitely recommend. !

  3. David Burke says:

I struggled with French a lot in school with such a big class but with the small classes Essential French have it really helped me focus and give me structure to my French learning. It really improved all aspects of my French to my listening and vocab to my speaking and verbs. I definitely recommend this course as it gives you great notes and keeps your standard of French up in TY. I will definitely be doing the Leaving Cert classes next year

All the teachers are really nice and helpful and make learning French extremely easy. The notes we get are fantastic and I always use them in my essays now. Overall I really enjoyed the course and I will definitely be taking the Leaving Cert classes next year to help me even more

  5. Beth Scally says:

I really enjoyed essential French as I feel like it has given me a head start for the Leaving Cert. Everyone there is so kind and if you have a question they get back to you straight away. The notes I got are very useful. The small classes are great because you don’t feel overwhelmed.

  6. Sophia Corbett says:

I always loved the subject french in school and needed help on it but unfortunately in such a big class I did not get special attention needed. I joined essential french in February of this year, recommended by my friend, I was so happy to see how small the class is, making it really interactive and very easy to focus , we cover absolutely everything from grammar work to oral work, I’m so satisfied with the work we get given every week such as small amount of oral, vocabulary, grammar and comprehension work. I look forward on continuing essential french in September.

  7. Fiadh says:

I started this course in February and it’s been so helpful. I was afraid that I would forget all my French in TY but now that I’ve done Essential French I’ve learned so much and met some lovely people. It really gave me a head start for 5th year.

  8. Orla Dolan says:

Essential French really helped me up my standard of French. My knowledge of verbs, grammar and vocab all improved whilst I was attending their TY 12 week course. I also had fun! All the teaching games made it easy and interesting to learn and the quizlet app made it easier to study at home.

I would greatly recommend Essential French’s TY programme for any TY who wants to focus on their French skills before their Leaving Cert.

Thank you Natasha and the team!

  10. Emma says:

  12. Niamh Ryan says:

” essential french make learning into fun ”
I looked forward to my Thursday evening french class as each week I learned more and more but we also had fun in class. I really felt like I got lots out of ty from doing essential french.

  13. Laura Power says:

I heard about the TY course from my brothers and I’m delighted I went through with it! In TY I expected to lose my french but instead I learned more. For only one class a week its easy to keep on top of it and its well worth the work. The teacher was lovely and I actually enjoyed the classes. I am much more confident going into 5th year now and I’ll definitely be continueing Essential French next year!

  14. megan McCarthy says:

I really really enjoyed the Thursday classes of essential French, they were very helpful in terms of going over the material we have already learned from school, helping us to understand the language better and also teaching us new vocabulary and how to pronounce everything properly. I hope the TY course was only a taster to what I’ll be learning as I go into 5th year because I learned so much this year alone! It really surprised me how much you can learn in 11 weeks for an hour and a half a week! Also the homework helped me learn a lot of what we went over in class! My French grades have risen considerably well and I look forward to the 5th year and leaving cert classes in the next 2 years!

  15. Emma F says:

French was always one of my weaker subjects in school, I would always be quite lost in class and it also made me dread going into the class because I felt like everyone else was so much better than me. I had heard a lot about Essential French from my friends, so i decided to do the TY course there and it was honestly one of the best decisions I made! I felt like it was the most French I had learned in a few weeks than my 4 years of knowing the language. It was a great environment to be in, it was fun but we got so much work done. I noticed I instantly felt so much more confident in school, I started to love French and I knew answers to more questions. My exam results went up so much and I was getting A’s in tests we were doing and even though they weren’t big tests it was such an improvement in my results! I would definitely recommend EF to anyone, it was the best few months and I’m looking forward to going back in 5th year.
